What is Fitness?

Fitness has different meanings for different people.  For some it means being able to stand, for others it means competing at a high level.  Let us work together to assess your needs, wants and goals.

Shimotsu-Kai Goal. We will evaluate your present condition and assess your fitness goals, create a plan and educate and guide you on a safe and effective program. In this process, we are not trying to create a dependent person but one that is enlightened to assess your ongoing needs and make adjustments to your program as needed.

The Process.  The assessment should occur wherever you plan to execute the program: in the office, at home, in the park or at the gym.  We can work with or without equipment, with little or vast amounts of space.  We will meet you at your mental, physical and resource level.  We will discuss your goals, discuss methods, location, time allocation, etc.  Plan for the assessment to take at least 90 minutes.  Once we make a thorough assessment, we will schedule a follow-up session as a dry run to introduce the program.  You will be shown proper and effective technique for maximal effectiveness and efficiency.  All programs will include warm-up, ramp up, ramp down and wind down.  Breathwork is key to fitness with Shimotsu-Kai.  You will be shown proper breathing techniques to first connect your mind, body and spirit of the impending activity, thus putting you in a state to maximize the activity and reduce injury, as well as returning you to a state of reentry back into your day-to-day activities.  Dietary and lifestyle recommendations may be made.

The Program.  Will depend on your goals, means and time.  The key to successful fitness is understanding what your mind, body and spirit needs.  Not following a rote program that may be effective 25-50% of the time, but having the knowledge and sensitivity to adjust the program as you change (hourly, daily, weekly, etc.).  What doesn't change is the conscious awareness of executing techniques: properly, effectively and appropriately for the given situation.  I will initially present you with a fish, and then I will teach you to fish.

Your Commitment.  Agree to at least five sessions (stage 1).  The first session is a 90-minute assessment.  The next four will be scheduled appropriately (i.e., weekly) for us to work together to ensure understanding, proper technique and encouragement through the program. Once stage 1 is completed, we will move to stage 2.  Stage 2 could be an extension of  Stage 1 or we can adjust our visits to alternating weeks or monthly.  While you are experiencing mind, body and spiritual changes, your program will need adjustments.  We can use our session time to make adjustments, additions and changes as appropriate.  During the various stages, we will determine the frequency and content of your sessions while we are apart. It is imperative that the sessions continue without me there. I will oversee your execution and make recommendations to adjust the program as needed.
